Fun versus Success?
« on: Feb 24, 2010, 16:08:14 »
So. This is another topic that really doesn't have any sort of answer and it's simple, but has been argued for quite some time. Especially now on Youtube.

When a person is making something. Is it more important for them to like it or for the people use it to like it?

I'll post my opinion on this later.

It's similar to the difference between a job & a career; if you hate your job, then you feel like you've failed yourself & failed at achieving happiness. When you find a job you like (where it feels rewarding to you in some way other than money,) then you have a career.

Excellent use of a quote. I must agree with Thomas, if you really do love your job it won't feel like a "job".
I must say though that some of those people on Youtube are halirious compared to half the comedians we have around today!

Intrinsically, everyone prefers having fun over work. Even animals prefer playing than working. I mean; which is better... Watching your kid having fun with a toy or sitting in an office all day? But that's excluding careers.

Not every success is fun; after all, there are some people in high places who don't have fun sitting behind their desks, embezzling people's hard-earned cash wile in front of their work computers all day (I'm talking to you, bankers). :P

I once worked in a garage where the manager (who hated sitting at his desk & taking calls all day) actually came onto the floor & started helping out with the mechanics & tire mount/dismount technicians. Why? Because he used to be a mechanic when he was younger & missed those good-ol' days, where he was doing things with his hands.

Alright. I'll go ahead and add my opinion.

I think having fun is important definitely. If not, why bother doing it?

But then I also have to say being successful has it's own perks and would keep you going. Plus you can help others. etc.

So I think both are necessary. Even if you need to give up some of one to get the other.

(Hope that makes sense)

And success is always gratifying if it's the sort of success that you get from building something & getting it to work. That's besides all the fun you get when you build it.

But there are different levels of success as well as fun.

Well somethings that you succeed in are fun like a video game.  But also, when you succeed at something isn't it great to know that you just finished it?

It's not fun to be successful?

I can see what you mean, but the headaches or agony you go through to get that fun can't be considered fun.

To have fun you must be successful. Even if it includes being successful about having fun.
